Weblog 3

I think that it was a very good idea to get the students involved by what Jennifer did. She saw that the students were only focused on the exam before them and it was hard for her as the teacher to see that there was very little time for any other type of activity, so she created a service learning project for the students after school.

Do you think it is important to be open minded to all children and all disabilities without judging them on the first encounter? With Willie's story Monique learned a lot about him and began to understand him in a way she did not originally see him. She now saw him for who he was and not what he looked like?

When you do service-learning are you only thinking about the hours you need to receive in order to get your grade? or are you interested in making a difference in some of these kids lives? Do you think they will make a difference in yours? I know that I am very excited to start working with my service learning project and meet new kids and be a role model to them.

Do you think it is important for the people doing service learning to WANT to do it versus having to do it for a requirement or being forced? I think that the people who are reluctant to do it end up loving it in the end, or at least it seems like it from the different stories I have heard and read in this article.

Do you think it is important to reflect on how service learning effected you later on in your life? Claire met with individuals after their service learning experience to see how the shift of knowledge and diversity in their lives were, and I think that is important for people who participate in service-learning because it makes you think about what you learned and reflect on the things we take for granted in our lives.
